TalkToMe AAC ("we," "us," or "our") is an Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) web application designed to help children communicate effectively. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use our application at talktomeaac.com (the "Service").
We take the privacy of our users—especially children—very seriously. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.
When you create an account, we collect your email address, display name (optional), and an encrypted password. If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name and email address from your Google account.
The Service stores content you create, including word cards, sentence words, visual schedules, communication goals, session tracking data, and session notes. This data is stored in your private account and is not shared with other users.
We collect aggregated usage information such as word tap counts, communication session data (success/attempt tallies), and break timer usage. This data helps parents and therapists track communication progress and is stored within your account.
Payments are processed securely by Stripe, Inc. We do not store credit card numbers, bank account numbers, or other sensitive financial data on our servers. We only store your payment status (e.g., trial, paid, refunded) and the associated Stripe transaction identifiers.
We may collect standard analytics information through Google Analytics, including browser type, device type, pages visited, and general location (country/region level). This data is aggregated and not used to personally identify you.
The app uses your browser's local storage to save preferences such as voice selection and speech settings. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
TalkToMe AAC uses your browser's built-in Web Speech API for text-to-speech functionality. Speech synthesis is processed locally on your device. No spoken text or audio data is sent to our servers or any third-party service by the application.
We use the following third-party services to operate the application:
TalkToMe AAC is designed to be used by children under the supervision of a parent, guardian, or therapist. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 without verifiable parental consent.
Account creation and management (including payment) is intended to be performed by an adult. The communication content created within the app (word cards, sentences, etc.) is managed by the parent/therapist and stored within their account.
If you believe a child under 13 has provided personal information to us without parental consent, please contact us immediately so we can remove such information.
Your data is stored securely in Google Firebase (Cloud Firestore) using industry-standard encryption. All data transmitted between your browser and our servers is encrypted via HTTPS/TLS.
Access to your data is protected by Firebase security rules that ensure only authenticated users can read and write their own data. No other user can access your account data.
While we take reasonable measures to protect your information, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.
We retain your account and associated data for as long as your account is active. If you wish to delete your account and all associated data, please contact us using the information below and we will process your request within 30 days.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
